Look up a person, place, thing, event, or concept in Edgepedia, an encyclopedia of over 300k articles and constantly growing. Pass the subject's name ("Mount Fuji", "photosynthesis"), not a question: it matches titles, other names, and misspellings, not full text. Returns up to 10 articles, each with preview text; pass a result's id to `fetch` for the article. When the query is a topic's name ("science fiction writers", "painters"), that topic comes too, with its article count and an id starting `topic:`; it leads unless an article of the same name does. `fetch` a topic's id for its articles.
Parameters1
query
string
required
The name of a subject, or words from an article title.

fetch
Get one Edgepedia article in full, as Markdown with its citations, by the id of a `search` result. A `topic:` id gives that topic's articles (title, id, preview text; the first 120 in title order) and its narrower topics. Pass `citations: false` for a text about a quarter shorter: [n] markers in place of the inline source links, the reference list kept. Link the article when you use it; show its `credit` line with any text you quote.
Parameters2
id
string
required
The id of a search result (the last part of the article's address, such as "mount-fuji", or a topic's "topic:β¦" id).
citations
boolean
optional
Default true. false = [n] markers instead of inline source links; the numbered reference list stays.

The official MCP server for Edgepedia, a free encyclopedia by EdgeChat: over 300k articles with citations, and constantly growing. It lets an AI assistant search Edgepedia and read whole articles.
Address:https://www.edgechat.ai/mcp (Streamable HTTP). No key, no sign-up, read-only.
Edgepedia 1.5, released October 4, 2026, brings about 25,000 new or rewritten film and series articles, plus short summaries across the encyclopedia. Search previews return these published summaries, while full articles remain available as Markdown. On the website, detailed film and series plots sit in expandable Spoilers sections.
Inspect the API root for current corpus_version, corpus_updated, and release_notes metadata. The MCP initialization instructions include the same metadata. Corpus releases and MCP package versions are independent: corpus 1.5 does not mean MCP package version 1.5.

Tools
Tool
Input
Returns
search
query: a subject's name, not a question
Matching articles: id, title, link, and the published summary, falling back to the article opening when no summary is available. Other names and misspellings work ("Zhu Yuanzhang" finds the Hongwu Emperor). Words that name a topic ("science fiction writers") also return that topic.
fetch
id: an article's or topic's id; citations (optional)
One article as Markdown, with its link, date, topic, license, and credit line. citations: false swaps inline source links for [n] markers, about a quarter shorter. A topic's id lists its articles.
Both tools are annotated read-only. Try asking:
When did Mount Fuji last erupt? Use Edgepedia.
Who was Zhu Yuanzhang? Use Edgepedia.
Give me the credit line for Edgepedia's Marie Curie article.
Reference cards
Use the reference-card builder to find an article, choose automatic, light, or dark appearance, and copy its embed code. Each card shows the title, complete published summary, Edgepedia credit, and a link to the full article. The optional sizing script adjusts the iframe height; without it, the card remains readable and scrollable.
Examples in examples/: curl, Python, and JavaScript, with no dependencies.
Limits
600 calls a minute and 100,000 a day per IP address, for the API and the MCP server alike. Please cache.
