Give your AI assistant access to real Helm chart data. No more hallucinated values.yaml files.
io.github.Kubedoll-Heavy-Industries/helm-mcp โ Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server
This MCP server provides AI assistants access to real Helm chart data, avoiding hallucinated values.yaml content. The repository targets Helm and Kubernetes workflows and is labeled as an MCP server for use with the Model Context Protocol.
๐ ๏ธ Key Features
Access to real Helm chart data
Tool set count: 5
๐ Use Cases
Retrieving Helm chart information from Kubernetes-focused contexts
Using real values.yaml-related data instead of generated guesses
โก Developer Benefits
Grounded Helm data retrieval for AI assistants
Topics include helm, kubernetes, mcp, and model-context-protocol
โ ๏ธ Limitations
Limited details provided here beyond Helm chart access and the existence of 5 tools
Get chart dependencies (sub-charts). Each dependency entry includes the dependency's repository URL โ feed that URL back into search_charts, get_versions, or get_values to inspect the dependency. Supports both HTTP/HTTPS repos and OCI registries (oci://).
Parameters3
repository_url
string
required
Helm repository URL (e.g. https://charts.bitnami.com/bitnami) or OCI registry (e.g. oci://ghcr.io/traefik/helm)
Get chart values.yaml with optional JSON schema. Uses depth limiting (default 2) to show structure without overwhelming context. Use path to drill into specific sections, depth=0 for full YAML. include_examples surfaces nearby commented YAML examples and requires path to be set. Supports both HTTP/HTTPS repos and OCI registries (oci://).
Parameters11
repository_url
string
required
Helm repository URL (e.g. https://charts.bitnami.com/bitnami) or OCI registry (e.g. oci://ghcr.io/traefik/helm)
chart_name
string
required
Chart name (e.g. postgresql)
chart_version
string
optional
Chart version (defaults to latest)
path
string
optional
YAML path (e.g. .ingress.enabled)
depth
null | integer
optional
Max nesting depth (default 2, 0 for unlimited)
max_array_items
null | integer
optional
Max array items before truncation (default 3, 0 for unlimited)
show_comments
null | boolean
optional
Preserve YAML comments
show_defaults
null | boolean
optional
Include default values
include_schema
null | boolean
optional
Include values.schema.json in response
include_examples
null | boolean
optional
Include nearby commented YAML examples for the selected path (requires path to be set)
example_limit
null | integer
optional
Maximum nearby examples to include (default 1, max 3, 0 falls back to default)
Get available versions of a chart (newest first). Supports both HTTP/HTTPS repos and OCI registries (oci://). Use this to confirm a chart exists before calling get_values, or to find a specific version to pin.
Parameters3
repository_url
string
required
Helm repository URL (e.g. https://charts.bitnami.com/bitnami) or OCI registry (e.g. oci://ghcr.io/traefik/helm)
List or search charts in a Helm repository. Provide a repository_url, then optionally filter by keyword (e.g. keyword='postgres'). Note: OCI registries (oci://) do not support browsing โ for OCI you must already know the chart name, then call get_versions or get_values directly with that name.
Parameters3
repository_url
string
required
Helm repository URL (e.g. https://charts.bitnami.com/bitnami) or OCI registry (e.g. oci://ghcr.io/traefik/helm)
keyword
string
optional
Filter charts by name (case-insensitive substring match, e.g. 'postgres')
Give your AI assistant access to real Helm chart data. No more hallucinated values.yaml files.
What is this?
When you ask Claude, Cursor, or other AI assistants to help with Kubernetes deployments, they don't have access to Helm chart schemas. So they guess โ and the guesses look plausible but don't match reality.
Without mcp-helm:
โ Hallucinates field names that look right but don't exist
โ Suggests stale or deprecated chart versions
โ Wastes tokens on web fetches and guesswork
With mcp-helm:
โ Queries actual Helm repositories for real chart data
โ Gets the latest chart version automatically
โ Correct configurations the first time
mcp-helm implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP) โ a standard way for AI assistants to access external data sources.
Try It Now
Add this to your editor's MCP config to use our public instance (rate limited, no install required):
If you prefer to run the binary directly, install mcp-helm and replace the Docker config with:
json
{"mcpServers":{"helm":{"command":"mcp-helm"}}}
Available Tools
Tool
What it does
Useful parameters
search_charts
List or search charts in a Helm repo
keyword (substring filter), limit
get_versions
Get available versions of a chart (newest first)
limit=1 for the latest only
get_values
Get chart values.yaml, optionally as a focused subsection
path (e.g. .ingress), depth (default 2, 0 for full YAML), include_schema=true, include_examples=true (requires path)
get_dependencies
Get a chart's sub-charts (with their repo URLs, which can be fed back into the other tools)
โ
get_notes
Get chart NOTES.txt (post-install instructions)
โ
OCI registries (oci://...) do not support browsing โ for OCI you must already know the chart name, then call get_versions or get_values directly with that name.
